I spent the morning calling all kinds of offices and talking to all kinds of professionals, customer service reps, and the like. Meanwhile, the boys did some work independently. I tried to keep track. I'm toying with the idea of unschooling, but I want to look at it closely and see what the boys actually do when I'm not following a strict lesson plan. It's 11:30 AM now. Here's what they have done since 8 AM when they got up.
The Scientist
- worked on a project from Make: Electronics
- did several Khan Academy lessons
- read several chapters in a book on United States history
- did a couple of pages in his technical drawing workbook
- helped bail the sink that is stopped up again
- mixed up kitten food
- did a lesson in his Japanese program
- played with Lego
The Storyteller
- edited a few stories in his grammar and mechanics workbook
- did a few pages in his math workbook
- did a unit on shading and value in his art book
- read several chapters of a YA fantasy novel
- helped the Scientist with his electronics project
- read a chapter in a biography of Darwin
- played with kittens
- worked on direct objects, subjects, and verbs in a Latin grammar
- played with Lego
- researched names for kittens and discussed Hobbit history
- walked the dog
I have one more phone call to make, then we are going to the grocery store, and then we are going to hole up and read for a few hours. I think.
Wow! This is what they accomplish when they aren't following a strict lesson plan? :-) I wish I had as much motivation and discipline as your kiddos.
