what we gone done last week

We spent Monday preparing for and hosting a birthday party. We spent Thursday in family court. Despite that, we managed five days of work in most subjects.

Math was the obvious loser. There is a limit to how much drill the boys can handle before they want to shrivel up and die. I had scheduled the maximum amount for each day. There was no way I could make them do two days of math in one day. It was the same with Spanish and composition for the Scientist. Those subjects take a lot out of the kids. They can't be crammed. We did some schoolwork on Saturday, but we all needed Sunday to be our usual day of root beer floats, pizza and Doctor Who, because we'd had a tiring week trying to cram five days into three.

Anything highlighted in light gray we completed. Anything highlighted in dark gray I decided we should not do after all, not this week anyway, usually because we didn't have proper resources (like the keyboard we're borrowing is still in a friend's attic or the G7 chord hadn't been mastered so we couldn't move on to the songs) and so represents something we didn't even try to get it done.

For next week, I entered everything into Scholaric. My ex and I split custody 50/50, trading off on Monday mornings. Previously the plan was for the boys to take the city bus back to me each day as though they were travelling to school, then I'd send them back to the daddio at three PM. We've decided to try sending their schoolwork with them. Hopefully the Scholaric format will be simple enough for them to understand without me sitting right there. If not, Scholaric lets you bump lessons down a week so that we can play catch up more easily.
