occupy

On our way to a meeting of the group that will feed the 300 or so people we expect to show up for the first weekend of Occupy Albany...

me: I'm worried the Hero will get bored, so I might call and ask you to pick just him up.
the Hero: Mama?
the Gamer: Yeah, I might get bored too.
the Hero: Mama!
the Daddio: Okay, just give me a call when they want to be picked up.
the Hero: Um, hey!
me: Sorry, sweet pea, what?
the Hero: I know that it might be really boring, but even if it is, I'm going to stay at this meeting because I feel like it's an important thing to do.
All the rest of us: swoon

He turns six today, my big-hearted boy, littlest Food Not Bombs cook. At his naming ceremony, we asked everyone to share with him and pass on to him a virtue they felt they had. One of the older church members, who was only there because she was cleaning one of the church rooms, came in and offered him her heart for the community. That magic worked.

Our schooling has been almost entirely crammed out of our days by work for the occupation. Mostly it's me doing it, though the kids are getting interested here and there in different parts. I would rather keep up with school and put the occupation in the margins of our lives. I haven't figured out how to do both, though, and the activism comes first because it is urgent.
