Letters to Grandma, first thing today. Only the older two children know she has cancer. I told them all to write as though they'll never get a chance to talk to her again. What would they need to say?
They also made birthday cards for another friend.
The Scientist did a drill sheet of review problems in long multiplication. He also read three science fiction novels. Yeah, three. Two were the junior ones meant for kids, but one was a novelization as thick as a brick. He just sat there reading all day.
The Gamer reviewed/drilled percentages and decimals. We're now one hundred percent sure he's mastered whole numbers for the long term, but that's technically yesterday's news.
The Storyteller read MacWorld from cover to cover today. I subscribed him after he started badmouthing Apple over the Flash thing. Can't have a kid of mine going over to the dark side (but someday I am sure I will lose him to Linux). He also made up a computer code (which is obviously not functional, but he's trying). It's modeled after binary, but seems to involve cats. I love that kid.
Tomorrow we're going to see Astroboy in the theater, part of a rerun series our local movie complex does during the summer. The children are big fans of the old cartoon (and I love it 'cause it theoretically gets them thinking about who is alive and what their rights and duties are). The movie is over at ten a.m., but then we have to hit the library to pick up The Teaching Company DVD on literature that I'm thinking about assigning the Gamer. Then we are scheduled to have supper with a philosopher friend. We'll be talking about harm, I think, and paradox. I do hope we'll fit some math in somewhere.
Later this week we're going on a three day tri-state camping/flea marketing tour. I'm definitely bringing the nature notebooks but I'm not yet sure if I'm bringing the math books.
